Friends of the Yampa and Dinosaur National Monument are looking for 12-15 volunteers able to get down and dirty searching for dragonfly larvae in the Yampa River on September 15-17, 2026 at various locations between Hayden and Phippsburg. The Yampa is impaired for mercury in its downstream reaches, and we are partnering with Dinosaur National Monument and the Dragonfly Mercury Project to determine the source of contamination by collecting dragonfly larvae. Mercury bioaccumulates in these little guys, and since they complete their aquatic life cycle in one location, they are an excellent proxy for mercury contamination.
